How much does it cost?
Joining - Completion of the joining requirements (Boy Scout Handbook - Chapter 1 gives the new Scout the right to wear the Scout badge on his
uniform.  Through attendance and active participation in the Scouting program, he will be able to earn ranks as he strives toward the ultimate goal of
Eagle Scout.
(Note: “Scout” is not a rank.  Becoming a “Boy Scout” is a joining requirement, not a rank.)

Patrol Member - A new Scout is assigned to a patrol based on the number of new Scouts joining the Troop and the current Patrols’ membership.
New patrols (including New Scout Patrol) may be created and other patrols reorganized to accommodate the growing needs of the Troop.

Meetings - The Scout attends two patrol meetings and three to four Troop meetings each month.  Attendance is a must for learning new skills and
demonstrating Scout Spirit.  In the case of absence, the Scout must contact his Patrol Leader in advance of the meeting and let him know the reason
for his absence.

Outings - The new Troop member must complete the joining requirements (which earn him the right to wear the Scout badge) before he can
participate in a Troop outing.
Encourage - Your Scout to be prepared for Scout meetings, outings and other events.  Remember, in Boy Scouts, the boys run the Troop.
Encourage growth, development of leadership skills and independence in your Scout by making him responsible for making phone calls, turning in
paperwork and dues and meeting deadlines (especially turning in outing permission slips on time).

Committee Meetings - Attend the monthly Troop Committee meetings to keep informed on Troop events.  The Troop Committee meeting is where
the monthly calendar and Troop meeting plans are initially distributed.  Your Scout should get this information from you after the Troop Committee
meeting or from his Patrol Leader so he is prepared for the next Troop meeting.

Volunteer - To drive on outings.  For committee positions.  Share your skills. Participate in fund raisers.

Parent Committee Meeting:  All parents are invited to attend a monthly Parent / Committee
Meeting (PCM) the 1st Wednesday of each month at 6:45 pm at the Mira Mesa Rec. Center (MMRC).

Troop Meetings:  All scouts meet every Wednesday (except for PCM night) at 6:45 - 8:15 at the MMRC.  Patrol leaders will communicate with the
patrols about such events as skits and inspection items to bring to the meeting.

Patrol Meetings:  Most scouts will attend 2 meetings a month at the home of their Patrol Leader.  Individual meeting days and times are up to the
Patrol Leader.  There the scouts will work on skits for future troop meetings, plan for campouts, and work on rank and merit badges.

Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) Meeting:  The is a meeting for the boy leaders (i.e. Senior Patrol Leader ( SPL), the Assistant Senior Patrol
Leaders (ASPL) and the Patrol Leaders to meet once a month to plan out the events for the next 3 – 4 months.  The PLC meets at the same time as
the PCM, the 1st Wednesday of each month.
Troop 1212 is very active with a campout or special event taking place every month.  Our events coordinator   works closely with the PLC to schedule
events and get payments and permission forms.

The 1st campout for the new scouts will take place at Dos Picos near the end of the month of March.  The new scouts will work on their Tenderfoot
Rank and begin to learn other new skills from the older scouts.
Dues - The dues for the Troop are $10.00 a month.  This money helps pay for the patches and badges the boys earn.

Campouts - The scouts pay for each campouts.  Costs vary but mostly run between $20.00 and $25.00 per event.  This includes the cost of
transportation and food.

Camperships - The scouts may create a campership fund.  This fund is an account of money the scouts earn from fundraisers that the troop
holds.  Several fundraisers include popcorn, e-scrip, and Christmas greenery to name a few.  The campership money may be used to pay for dues
or other events such a campouts.

Trailer Fee - There is a small one time fee per family that is paid when a scout joins the troop.  This money is used for the upkeep of the Troop
Trailer and its contents such as the patrol boxes the scouts use for campouts.

Equipment - Troop 1212 has a supply of camping equipment for each patrol.  This includes tents and cooking equipment.  The scout needs to
only supply his own personal gear such as sleeping bags, sleeping pads, and some sort of carrying pack for his gear.
